Founded in 2022 by two owners with a shared passion for exceptional outdoor spaces, Landtrends was built on the belief that great landscapes are both artfully designed and expertly maintained. What began as a small operation has grown into a trusted partner for over 50 clients, known for refined craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a commitment to long-term landscape health.
At Landtrends, we create and care for outdoor environments that elevate how our clients live, entertain, and connect with their surroundings. Like many great stories, ours begins with a couple of kids trying to figure out what they wanted to be when they grew up. After working together for several years, it was very clear something bigger was on the horizon. The two decided to form Landtrends Inc. in 2022 and be leaders in quality, customer service, and communication.
Robby Ewing
Robby Ewing grew up in the green industry, with a father who owned an award-winning wholesale nursery and an uncle who ran a leading landscape company. After earning a General Business degree from Oregon State University, he worked on Mackinac Island—where motor vehicles are not allowed—gaining a strong work ethic.
He later returned to San Diego to work at Armstrong Garden Centers, becoming Assistant Manager of the Rancho Peñasquitos location and earning his California Certified Nursery Professional (CCNP) designation before transitioning back into landscaping, where he met Nic.
Nicolas Shellhammer
Nicolas Shellhammer is a San Diego native, who graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2012 with a degree in Environmental Horticulture . He found a passion in working with people to better their properties outdoor environment.
Through trial and error, he has acquired and refined a deep knowledge of site specific materials for use around San Diego county, and incorporates these into his ideas and designs.
Nicolas enjoys being active outside, and spending time with his family.
